Collect some parts, like your driver, and some copper tape.
Along with
the copper tape, I find it handy to use some 22 gauge speaker wire to
act as a leader
wire from the EL wire to the driver.
Split the
leader (speaker) wire into its separare halves.

This helps
to strip the EL wire without too much hassle

Heat guns
generate extreme heat BE CAREFUL if you have and or use one.
You can literally
light a cigarette with one of these!

This step
always pulls the center copper core wire out a little, and causes the thin
"wrap" wires
to also come
out, be sure to pull them back.
When I pull
the copper tape around the EL wire for a second time, I put the copper
tape a bit lower then the
first go-around.
Reason is, so I can see the thin "wrap wires" and can solder them to the
copper tape.
Done.....
